The ALA Job Bank is an online resource that connects law firms, corporations, governmental agencies and similar professional service organizations with prospective candidates for a wide variety of legal positions.
We've answered some of the most common questions below. If you need further assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to us at +1-847-267-1252 or [email protected].
How do I post an ad?
We make it easy! Our job advertisement form guides you through the posting process. You, the advertiser, are responsible for writing the text. The ad needs to be 5,000 characters or less.
How long will my ad appear on your website?
Ads run for four consecutive weeks starting the day they are activated. Expired ads remain in your Account Center and can be reactivated by you at any time — note you will be charged as a new job posting.
How much does it cost to post an ad?
ALA members pay $329 to post an ad while nonmembers pay $529. These same fees apply if an ad is renewed. Additional fees apply if the blind box service is used.
Is there a way for my firm’s identity to remain confidential?
Yes! If your legal organization prefers to remain anonymous, you can use our blind box service. ALA members pay an additional $169 (per ad posting); nonmembers will be charged an additional $269.
Will I be able to review the ad before it is uploaded and posted?
Yes, you’ll have the opportunity to view your ad as potential candidates will see it. If you decide that changes are needed, you’ll be able to edit your ad. You can also edit your active job posting at any time through the Account Center.
I’m struggling to write the ad. Do you have any sample ads that I can review?
We don’t keep a collection of sample ads. If you are looking for some inspiration, you can check out the Job Seekers page to see what other legal organizations are doing. Members also have access to ALA's Job Description Toolkit that can help you draft a job description. This resource is free to ALA members; nonmembers pay $399.
What types of positions will ALA accept ads for?
We accept ads for positions that focus on legal administration and the management of legal organizations, including positions in private law firms, legal service clinics, corporate legal departments, university legal departments, governmental legal agencies or any other organization engaged in the legal industry. Acceptable ads include practicing attorneys, legal managers and administrative positions, as well as support staff positions such as legal secretaries, legal assistants, paralegals and law clerks. Ads are also welcome for positions in professional service organizations (such as consulting and accounting firms) that require skills similar to those of a legal administrator or functional specialist.
Is ALA involved in my search at all?
We only act as a clearinghouse, not as an employment agency. We do not enter into salary negotiations or mediate disputes that may arise. In addition, ALA is not responsible for the content of job postings. Please email [email protected] with any questions or concerns about any postings.
What is the deadline for posting an ad?
The job bank is updated on a regular basis. New ads paid for by credit card will be uploaded to the website immediately.
How do I sign up for the Career Connection newsletter?
You can register to receive the weekly job newsletter through the Account Center.
Do I have to be an ALA member to apply for a job?
No, the Job Bank is open to both ALA members and nonmembers.
How do I apply for a job in the Job Bank?
To apply, please send your resume to the contact listed in the job posting or use the "Contact this Employer" feature by logging in to your ALA account. If you are not a member of ALA, please create a login and password to use the "Contact this Employer" feature.
Why are there not more employer ads for my location and/or position type?
ALA has no control over the number or type of ads posted in a specific location. The Job Bank is updated regularly so checking back at a later date is advised.
How do I search the current employer ads?
Employer ads can be found by using the job search. Here you will be able to search the employer ads by location, position type, and/or keyword.
