What Is the Difference Between ECL and CLI?

Have you seen announcements about the Essentials of Chapter Leadership (ECL) and the Chapter Leadership Institute (CLI) and wondered what the difference is between the two events? In some ways, these events are similar because they are targeted at chapter leaders and both share valuable information geared toward empowering leaders! 

But these events also differ in their focus. ECL focuses on the fundamentals of ALA chapter leadership and management. You will be exposed to resources, ideas and education that will equip you from the start of your leadership term and highlight the basics for those thinking of stepping into a leadership role.  

CLI builds upon the foundation formed at ECL. The focus is on leadership, communication skills, member engagement and recruitment, with opportunities for brainstorming and problem-solving within the parameters of different Board positions. Both events are geared toward chapters of all sizes; however, CLI incorporates roundtable sessions that are focused on specific positions and subject matters with an opportunity to share ideas and concerns with your peers.
